Our Goals

CCRI has the following goals:

  • ADVANCING critical literature on cultural development in diverse contexts. As a research institution, our primary focus is on rigorous academic inquiry. Drawing from political-economic perspectives, we analyze cultural development projects in relation to varying political and economic conditions. Through case studies, we critically examine the interplay of power, politics, and cultural development.
  • CONDUCTING comparative research on cultural cities, creative cities, cultural planning, cultural management, art, and cultural management education. Addressing subjects of global significance, we employ comparative urbanism to explore how cultural development is shaped by distinct local contexts and urban conditions.
  • ADVOCATING innovative research methods to push the boundaries of cultural planning literature.
  • PROMOTING interdisciplinary synergies in cultural development, fostering collaborations across multiple fields to generate new insights and approaches.
  • EXAMINING the interdependencies of cross-cultural development in the era of globalization, highlighting the ways in which cultural exchange influences urban and regional transformations.
  • FACILITATING cross-cultural art initiatives and international artistic interactions. We provide a global perspective on the art market, introducing outstanding contemporary artworks from overseas to the U.S. and vice versa.
  • CONSULTING on cultural development projects, offering professional expertise in areas such as public art planning, historic conservation, tourism planning, and the design of cultural districts.
  • INTEGRATING digital technology into the humanities. We leverage GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and quantitative research methods to map and analyze the spatial patterns of artists, cultural events, sites, and projects. Additionally, we utilize programming languages such as R, SQL, and Python in conjunction with GIS to advance spatial and data-driven research.
